    Oxford Brookes Mentoring Fair

    Thursday 26 October

You are invited to join us at the Oxford Brookes Mentoring Fair on Thursday 26 October! Watch out for the posters, videos and social media communication over the next weeks.

Come along to the JHB Forum at lunchtime between 12 noon and 2pm to meet mentoring scheme owners and find out about the many benefits that mentoring can bring to your students and why you should encourage them to take part.

There will be a range of mentoring schemes present on the day for students to register their interest, as well as staff mentoring activities. There will also be a “mentoring booth” so you can experience a mentoring session taster with one of our Brookes Mentors.

Gina Dalton, Project Sponsor for the PESE initiative Sustaining Mentoring said

Mentoring can make such a positive contribution to students and their mentors, who can provide advice with career development and progression, expanding professional contact circles and can help work through challenges and new ideas.

There are opportunities for students to become both mentors and mentees, and the fair will be an excellent starting point for those who want to see what is available! We would particularly encourage staff to come and speak to colleagues who already run mentoring activities that support improving student satisfaction, NSS and DLHE. These could be Peer Assisted Learning activities where students support other students in their learning, or alumni mentoring schemes which help with employability.

Brookes Connections: The new Oxford Brookes Alumni E-mentoring scheme Launches

    Thursday 26 October

The mentoring fair will also see the launch of Brookes Connections, a new alumni E-mentoring scheme, where students have the opportunity to connect with Oxford Brookes alumni via an online portal.

Staff who are also alumni are encouraged to sign up to become mentors so that they can share their experiences since graduating.

Brookes Connections Co-ordinator Angharad Shambler says

We are always keen to hear from staff who are also alumni, and if you are interested in mentoring our current students, please do come along to the fair and talk to us!

We would also like to encourage academic staff to promote the scheme to their students. We have prepared powerpoint slides which can be show in lectures.
