Ian Whiting

  • Staff and Organisational Development Consultant

    Ian is a learning and development practitioner experienced in delivering new initiatives into a variety of industry sectors, applying well-honed consultancy skills, project /change management rigour and general pragmatism. Industry sectors include high-tech engineering (European Aeronautical Defence and Space Company EADS), airlines (British Airways), hotels (Inter-Continental Hotels) data marketing (Claritas), maritime (Sea Containers), Travel (Trailfinders)  and multi media contact centres (iSKY Europe). This is combined with experience in organisational development and HR.

    Ian joined OCSLD in 2006 and his interests have led to the development of a variety of business focused workshops including Leading and Managing Change, Introduction to Consultancy Skills and the popular Participative Process Reviews

    Practicing what he teaches (project management) has seen Ian being seconded to the Senior Management Team at Oxford Brookes to oversee the implementation of key University initiatives. He was appointed Project Manager to lead and successfully deliver the largest organisational restructure ever undertaken within the University (2010/11). He was subsequently tasked with setting up the “Programme for Enhancing the Student Experience” (PESE)  consisting of 12 key University wide projects (2012/13).  Ian was then instrumental in initiating a Project Management Office for the University.  

    Acting as an internal consultant within the University Ian works with his link areas on a variety of bespoke initiatives aligned to business operational plans, examples include developing a coaching culture, carrying out an all inclusive staff initiative to define their desired target culture which is now a central point of reference to how the Directorate operates. Recently he has conducted a series of listening exercises to engage staff in specific issues which impact their work life balance.       

    Ian has an MA in Human Resource Management, is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, ILM Certificated Coach and an MBTI practitioner.

    He recently (2015) gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Talent and Career Management.

    Ian also Chairs the Midland Staff Development Partnership and sits on the Executive Council of the national Staff Development Forum.
