Susie Howes

  • Susie joined Oxford Brookes as a Staff Developer in February 2019. She is the lead for the Personal Effectiveness collection of sessions, designed to provide practical help for staff to tackle common challenges or gain specific skills and to share experience and ideas.  In this evolving area of provision, Susie works closely with our trusted associates and makes use of her own varied experience and training, to develop and deliver courses which keep pace with the ever-changing landscape, whilst ensuring the content is tailored to the Brookes environment.

Susie is also a facilitator for leadership and management sessions and mandatory courses, such as 'Welcome to Brookes'. With her strong interest in personal development, she is also a qualified coach and assessor for participants on the Train the Trainer course.

Susie started her career as a scientific researcher at Oxford University’s Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) before moving into Industry and helping to set up the world’s first commercial DNA fingerprinting laboratory.  She spent several years performing high profile forensic work for police forces across the globe before establishing a training function within AstraZeneca to help other institutions set up laboratories.

Susie went on to work independently in the field of medical education for HEI’s, the NHS and commercial companies using the latest training methods in simulation and e-Learning to train healthcare teams.  She was an executive member of the related European and Uk associations, working to establish national standards for simulation training centres.

Having seen how crucial human factors are in affecting performance in the healthcare setting, Susie has pursued her passion in helping others reach their potential by studying and qualifying in coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, mental health first aid and MBTI personality profiling.
