Susie Howes

  • Susie joined Oxford Brookes as a Staff Developer in February 2019.

In her first 6 months she has been busy delivering courses such as PDR, Recruitment and Selection and Retirement Planning, coaching and assessing participants on the Train the Trainer course and developing bespoke sessions for department away days and individual teams.  Her current focus is on the new Leadership and Management development offer launching in the Autumn of 2019.

Susie started her career as a scientific researcher at Oxford University’s Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine before moving into Industry and helping to set up the world’s first commercial DNA fingerprinting laboratory.  She spent several years performing high profile forensic work for police forces across the globe before establishing a training function within AstraZeneca to help other institutions set up laboratories.

Susie went on to work independently in the field of medical education for HEI’s, the NHS and commercial companies using the latest training methods in simulation and e-Learning to train healthcare teams.  She was an executive member of the related European and Uk associations, working to establish national standards for simulation training centres.

Having seen how crucial human factors are in affecting performance in the healthcare setting, Susie has pursued her passion in helping others reach their potential by studying coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, mental health first aid and personality profiling.  She has used a combination of her experience and training to develop and deliver courses in Mental wellbeing at Work and Stress Management.
