Introduction to learning and teaching in higher education

  • Who is it for

    The Introduction to Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, for PhD students and people who have no or little teaching experience.

    The format of the course

    The course runs over two half days, usually a week apart:

    • The first half day introduces the fundamentals of student learning and perspectives on university teaching.
    • In the second half day you will deliver a ‘microteaching’ session. You will receive peer and tutor feedback on your own teaching, experience a variety of teaching styles, and practice giving feedback to others.

    By the end of the session you will be able to:

    • describe the key features of learning and teaching environment in Higher Education
    • apply effective teaching techniques to support student to learn effectively.

    Certificate

    The course is not credit-bearing, but we will award you a certificate of attendance if you successfully complete both parts of the course.
