Train the Trainer programme

  • Train the trainer image

  • Who is it for?

This programme has been designed for nominated staff members who are required to both design and deliver training sessions for their department (or organisation).

The programme starts from the premise that delegates are new to this subject area.

This programme requires manager nomination as it represents a considerable investment of time and places are limited.  Participants will need to determine at the outset of the programme what learning event they are planning to design and deliver on their return to the workplace.

Being an ILM endorsed programme the final assessment will be an observed learning intervention in the workplace.

    Learning Objectives / Outcomes

Course Aim: To enable participants to design and deliver an effective group learning intervention.

By the end of this training programme participants will be able to

    • Incorporate theories related to adult learning into the design and structure of their learning intervention.

    • Complete an effective diagnostic process to develop clear learning objectives (outcomes) to underpin a learning intervention from initial design to final evaluation.

    • Design an effective learning intervention which optimises best use of time, resources, digital technology and established training techniques.

    • Explain how they will encourage learner participation, engagement and facilitating group (and individual) dynamics.

    • Carry out a learning intervention at a pace that maximises the level of participant learning.

    • Apply effective behavioural attributes associated with effective trainers to confidently deliver a training intervention.

    • Incorporate good practice advice and techniques to ensure the learning intervention meets an organisations commitments for equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

    • Determine best methodology to evaluate a learning intervention, measuring its effectiveness and return on investment (ROI).

    • Consolidate learning through participants own design and delivery of two learning interventions set against a Train the Trainer assessment criteria.

  •

    • Thank you very much for the Train the Trainer sessions which I did enjoy. They have given me plenty of ideas and much to think about to improve the quality of my training.
Alex Friend, Training and Development Specialist, OBIS

    • It was both really practical and also hugely valuable for helping me reflect on my own beliefs about how to convey information in a group.
Jennifer Gunthardt, Web Content Editor,  Directorate of Corporate Affairs

    • I found Train the Trainer a very useful course with a good mix of theory and practice. The skills I have come away with can be applied both to formal training in groups, but also on a 1:1 basis.
