Brookes Innovation Projects and Fellowship Awards 2017

  • In 2017, the scheme was split into Innovation Projects and Fellowship awards.


    Two Innovation Projects received funding:

    • Jane Spiro, Marion Waite and colleagues, School of Education, Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery, OCSLD
      ‘Writing outside the box’: This project is a cross-disciplinary project looking at how professional and academic knowledge can be conveyed in non-traditional ways, with storytelling as an alternative to the academic paper. Modules will be developed and evaluated in relation to how professional and academic knowledge can be taught / learned through story.
    • Samia Kamal, School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
      Innovation Hub: This project will develop and evaluate an innovation hub that seeks to foster students’ innovation, research and entrepreneurship. 
      The project will bring together three strands: Innovation, Creativity and Employability (ICE) Lab; Knowledge Lab; Enterprise Lab.


    Three Fellowships were awarded:

    • Anne Osterrieder, Department of Biological and Medical Sciences
      Anne was awarded a fellowship for her innovative use of social media to support student learning and connect students with professionals in their disciplines.
    • Mary Davis, Oxford Brookes International
      Mary was awarded a fellowship for her outstanding contribution in developing and supporting student and staff understanding of academic integrity.
    • Jennifer Kirman, Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery
      Jennifer was awarded a fellowship for her outstanding use of electronic portfolios to support student learning and her passion for supporting other academic staff in developing their practice related to e-portfolios.


    All the fellows and project awardees have demonstrated a sustained commitment to and excellence in teaching, learning and the student experience at Oxford Brookes.
