Programmes for new lecturers

  • This is a suite of courses designed primarily for people joining the University, who have or will have a teaching role.

    What are the aims?

    • Equip participants with techniques, and support to deal with immediate challenges,  
    • Develop academic literacies in HE teaching and learning in line with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF),
    • Increase scholarship, repertoire, competence, and confidence in all areas of professional activity and core knowledge,
    • Foster the development of an engaged, participatory, critical, evidence-based approach to learning and teaching,
    • Foster the habits of shared reflection in professional learning communities.

    The course leads to a postgraduate award of the University, the Postgraduate Certificate of Teaching in Higher Education (PCTHE). The programme is recognised for credit in the MA Education and will form part of the curriculum in the new MA Education (Higher Education). The course is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) for the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for Teaching in Higher Education.
