• ODP-Brookes-Swindon-1270-x-420
  • Our ODP course is mainly based in the South-West, with academic contact at our Joel Joffe Building, Swindon campus. It has gained a reputation for providing students with a strong sense of belonging, friendship and support, through close networking and peer support. We place our students in hospitals that have national or international reputations for excellence and innovation in surgery and our practice partners highly value Oxford Brookes students. This course reflects the multidisciplinary and multi-professional approach needed by perioperative practitioners working within a contemporary operating theatre environment, and meets the registration requirements of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Operating Department

Operating Department Practitioners work mainly in the operating theatre environment but are increasingly working in other critical care areas of a hospital, such as in A&E and ITU.
Career progression can see ODPs managing theatres, managing specialist wards, teaching, training and becoming researchers.

On taking further training ODPs can work as Physicians’ Assistant (Anaesthesia) and Surgical First Assistant. More details here and here.
