Monday, 24 January 2011

Georgina Holme, a 2nd year midwifery student at the School of Health and Social Care was one of only three midwifery students in the UK short-listed for the Pampers Student Vision Award at the 2010/2011 Royal College of Midwives Annual Midwifery Awards.

The award is for a travel bursary, open to individuals or groups of students currently undertaking courses leading to registration as a midwife. It is also open to midwives undertaking a return to midwifery practice programme. A number of bursaries are awarded to contribute to the funding of a carefully planned elective placement away from their normal educational environment either within the UK or overseas.

Georgina is hoping to attend the International Confederation of Midwives' triennial conference in Durban, South Africa this summer and complete an elective placement in a maternity unit in Durban during the same trip.

At the presentation award during a celebration lunch at the Royal Garden Hotel on 19th January, the guests were told that there had been a record number of applicants for this year’s award and that Georgina's application was highly commended by the judges.
