Paramedic Science at Oxford Brookes

  • We aim for you to graduate as a competent, resourceful and confident Modern Paramedic who is able to effectively work autonomously in a variety of clinical environments. To achieve this students experience high-quality Paramedic Science education, both at University and in Practice Education settings. 

    This enables students to have a broad range of knowledge and understanding in the core teaching themes of biosciences, clinical education, clinical practice learning and research. These are supplemented by an active Student Paramedic society and strong student voice to ensure experiences are enjoyable and relevant. 

    Practice Education is a core theme of the programme and placements are organised into blocks across the academic year. Students are placed to work alongside a varied range of multiprofessional clinicians in NHS, Private, Voluntary and Independent care providers, who care for individuals with social and/or health requirements. Whilst our Ambulance Service partner is South Central Ambulance Service NHS FT, you'll experience learning from clinicals in a variety of focused placements. 

    These have their own unique learning themes with supplement and consolidate your experiences on ambulance placement. They are structured with a year focus upon: 

    • Fundamental Care and Communication skills in year one
    • Developing Paramedic Practice in year two
    • Enhanced Paramedic Practice in year three

    Our graduates have gone on to have successful careers in a variety of professions including South Central Ambulance Service Foundation Trust , South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust, Welsh Ambulance Service, London Ambulance Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service Foundation Trust, East of England Ambulance Service.
