Research Student Judith Gentle's PhD was concerned with examining walking patterns in individuals with and without DCD.
It is often reported that children with DCD trip and bump into objects while walking. However, whether this is due to marked differences in the way these individuals walk is unknown. Judith is asking participants to walk continuously for two minute periods while carefully tracking the movement of the feet, legs, trunk and head using our specialised movement capture system. Participants are asked to do this on a flat surface and also on a surface which mimics walking on cobbles. This will then allow us to map the exact walking patterns of both adults and children with DCD and compare these to what we see in individuals without movement difficulties.
