Anna has completed a project to revise and re-standardise the Movement ABC test ( Movement Assessment Battery for Children – 2nd Edition, Henderson, Sugden & Barnett, 2007). This test has UK norms for children aged 3 to 16 years. It is popular with Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists working with children with DCD, helping them to measure motor performance and plan how best to help children learn the movement skills required in everyday life. The Movement ABC Test has been translated into several different languages and is now the most popular test World wide for the assessment of children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).
Anna has also worked with colleagues to design a test of handwriting speed – the Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting ( DASH and DASH 17+; Barnett, Henderson, Scheib & Schulz, 2007, 2010). There is a version for children aged 9 to 16 years and one for those aged 17 to 25, both of which help to identify students with slow handwriting. The test is being used by Occupational Therapists, teachers and special needs tutors to measure handwriting speed and help plan how best to help those with difficulties. Further work on both the Movement ABC and DASH is underway to examine their reliability and validity in different groups of children of various ages.
