Development of IDS-2

  • UK Standardisation of the IDS-2 – Intelligence & Development Scales

Oxford Brookes University is working in partnership with the publisher Hogrefe Ltd. to provide a UK standardisation of the Intelligence & Development Scales for Children and Adolescents – 2nd Edition, IDS-2. These include an assessment of intelligence, executive functions, psycho-motor competence, social-emotional competence and basic skills in language, literacy and numeracy for those aged 5 to 20 years. The aim of the project is to equip professionals with an up-to-date assessment to help describe performance levels and identify those with difficulties.

Data will be gathered from a large representative sample across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland by qualified test administrators. These will be individuals with experience assessing young people and the ability to recruit participants through their own personal networks.

Prof Anna Barnett is leading the project team at Oxford Brookes, with assistance from Dr Nichola Stuart in the Psychology team. Dr Serena Vanzan has been appointed as Project Coordinator and the project also includes a funded PhD studentship, taken up by Teresa Joyce. We have also drawn on the expertise of other staff in the Psychology team, who have offered support with different parts of the IDS-2.
