Teaching and supervision
I have taught for many years across the Film programme at Brookes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level on subjects ranging from introductory film analysis, film genre, realism and documentary, dissertation supervision and world cinema. At present, I am Module Leader for Framing Film Analysis, Global Film and TV Cultures and also the postgraduate module Popular European Cinema.
My teaching background also includes twenty years of adult education classes in Film Studies for Oxford University’s Dept. Of Continuing Education.
My research interests currently include aspects of international cinema such as Nordic Noir but have always centred on film genre. I have published on Body Horror, and more recently contributed essays on television and film Science Fiction to edited book collections on the subject.
I have been a professional blues guitarist and I am a member of the Brookes steering committee for promoting the Paul Oliver Collection of Blues documents currently housed in Brookes’ Special Collections Archive.
