Dr Supriya Akerkar was an invited panellist at the conference ASEM Forum on Human Rights of Older Persons: Present and Future held on 26 and 27 October, 2021. The conference was organised by National Human Rights Commission of Korea & the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea.

Supriya delivered an online presentation on 27 October titled 'Older people in humanitarian crisis: Discourses, normative frameworks, policy and practice'. Her presentation highlighted the situation of older people in humanitarian crises and the need for a new UN Convention to protect the rights of older people.

She discussed the potential of the convention along with her co-panelists: Matthew Wells, Deputy Director, Amnesty International; Ken Bluestone, Head of Policy and Influencing, Age International; Eun-Ha Chang, Director Korean Women's Development Institute, and the chair, Hye-Kyeong Lee, ASEM Global Ageing Centre.
