About us

Start date: November 2020

This UK wide study will use audio diaries and interviews to amplify and analyse the voices of student nurses in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as they describe clinical practice in the time of COVID-19.

Student nurses will narrate the ways in which their education prior to and during COVID-19 prepared them for nursing in the pandemic. They will describe the skills they have acquired and consider how these may be used in nursing within and beyond COVID's different phases. They will reflect on those educational interventions which produced the best outcomes.

The project will identify those factors that promote resilience in student nurses. Furthermore, it will map the impact of their current experience on their identities and professional futures as nurses. Finally, the project will generate key lessons for nursing pedagogy, practice, and workforce policy.

Hearing your voice

We are currently recruiting second and third year student nurses to take part in a UK wide study looking at the experiences and views of student nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study will help us to understand how you have contributed to the healthcare crisis and inform the way nursing education is delivered in the future.

The study would involve:

  • completing a brief online survey
  • recording your experiences and reflections of working on placement during the emergency once a week for four weeks via an audio, video or written diary
  • taking part in a telephone or online interview with a researcher to further explore your experiences of working in during the COVID-19 emergency once your placement has finished.

If you are interested in taking part we would ask you to complete an online expression of interest form, which will be received by a member of the research team.

If you have any questions about the study you can also contact a member of the research team who will be able to answer any questions you might have.

All participants who complete the survey and diaries will be given a £20 Amazon voucher. Participants who also take part in the post placement interview will be entered into a second prize draw to win an iPad.
