SHARED EXPERIENCES Over the course of the interviews, a number of themes emerged. These reflected the ways in which academics’ work lives had been supported and made possible by the help and support of others - including colleagues, friends and family. They also brought personal stories to bear on key facets of academia: its international dimension and the possibility of making a difference. This desire to effect change was felt at the level of students, the University and, through impactful research and outreach activities, society. Each of these levels will be explored in more depth.
