I have been a children’s nurse for 24 years and when my own children went to primary school I got more and more involved in the school, going in to read and teach lessons (on request). I really enjoyed it and the calling became stronger and stronger to become a teacher.

The Brookes course has a very good reputation so it was my first choice. I was impressed when I attended for interview, so was very happy when I got a place.

I particularly like the fact that it is modular and that there are three school placements during the year, totalling 18 weeks of school experience. I have liked the assessment strategies and all the subjects have been taught in a very ‘hands on’ way.

The support from staff has been amazing. All of them are very approachable and very helpful. Jean Clark and Sarah Bhatti are a fantastic support and have always had an open door and a listening ear.

Brookes delivers teacher training in a fun and exciting way. I was surprised to discover that the subjects that I thought would be my weaker subjects are turning out to be my strongest subjects!

I am now on my final teaching experience in school, teaching year 6 children. I am looking for a part time job and will hopefully be successful in finding one in a local primary school.
