I knew a few people from home who had been to Brookes and highly recommended it. After researching Brookes myself, coming to the open day and seeing Oxford, It felt like a place I would be happy in

I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in primary teaching. Before finishing a BSc in Health and Leisure Studies in Belfast I had applied to Brookes and had found out I had a place in January, giving me plenty of time to prepare for the September start. One of the most beneficial things I did in Belfast was gain experience in primary schools. I did this throughout my undergraduate degree doing one day a week when I wasn't in class.

Knowing that I wanted to do a primary PGCE was a good start but knowing where to go was the difficult choice! I knew a few people from home who had been to Brookes and highly recommended it. After researching Brookes myself, coming to the open day and seeing Oxford, It felt like a place I would be happy in.

I was privileged to be in such a fantastic group for classes; we all bonded well, worked well and socialised well together! Being on such an intense course, you spend a lot of time with your group. We all understood and were willing to help one another. The residential course trip to Wales was a bonus, and I had a fantastic time with friends and course leaders!

I loved living in halls, having a group of 7 people who I didn't know until September live with me, has been the most fantastic thing ever. We are all PGCE students so it was great to come back from class or a day in school to people who could understand what you were going through. There was also on-going support from the staff at Brookes, who were always on hand to contact if you needed anything. Lecturers have an amazing rapport with all the students and are great to talk to or have a cuppa with!

I am about to start my 8 week final placement. If all goes well I will be pass and receive Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) status in July. I was blessed to get the first permanent job I applied for, and I am starting full time work in a primary school in Enfield, North London in July. I had considered travelling, however I could not turn down this fantastic opportunity of completing my NQT year.
