MA Education, 2013

I decided to study the MA Education at Oxford Brookes as I had already completed my National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) as well as a couple of modules about leadership in education at a different university. I am currently the Executive Headteacher of the Buckinghamshire Primary Pupil Referral Unit after 15 years as a teacher of KS2–4 English and Drama in both mainstream and special schools.

I decided to study the MA Education at Oxford Brookes as I had already completed my National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) as well as a couple of modules about leadership in education at a different university. I wanted to convert these into an MA and Brookes was the closest well-regarded MA Education course to my home. I was also attracted to the course as I liked the structure of the course in relation to its high level of contact time with tutors.

One of the best aspects of the course was the chance to discuss education with others from a variety of fields and I really appreciated the time and effort that my supervisor gave me in order to help me acquire the final grade that I got for my dissertation.

I enjoy the variety of cultural events that are available in Oxford as well as the chance to live in a busy city that also has the green spaces in order to relax. Having the Bodleian is a huge advantage to students as well as the easy travel links to London for further reading.

Studying the MA Education has already helped me with my current role in as much as I now have a greater understanding of the needs of some of our more vulnerable pupils (the subject of my dissertation).

Having an MA shows that I have a breadth of knowledge about pupils across a range of ages and demonstrates my commitment to continual professional development.

Erica Holley as course leader was very approachable, well-organised and supportive. As my dissertation tutor she could not have done anything else to make the process of completion any easier.
