Primary Teacher Education

I decided to study for a BA in Primary Teacher Education because teaching is always something I have aspired to do and this course had a very good reputation

Prior to beginning my course at Oxford Brookes I was studying for my A-Levels at a sixth form in Thame. Alongside studying I did some voluntary work in a local school as well as in a local charity shop to gain some experience for university. I decided to study for a BA in Primary Teacher Education because teaching is always something I have aspired to do and this course had a very good reputation.

I also had friends who had already done the course and so this helped me in my decision. Oxford Brookes is close to where I live and I like the location of the Harcourt Hill campus in that it isn’t right in the hub of everything but is close to town. I also liked the fact that the course was purely assessed through assignments and placements.

My favourite aspect of the course is that I learn the teaching strategies in university and are then given the chance to use them in practice through placements. Furthermore, the teaching staff are all very helpful and do their best to ensure you succeed in your studies especially Sarah Mirrington who has been very inspiring.

I enjoy being near the city of Oxford as there are so many shops and activities that you can do such as punting. Due to the nature of the degree, being close to town is handy as some of our assignments require art resources.

I think that studying this course at Brookes will give me the skills and knowledge that I need to help me in my future career. I feel that so far I have gained effective communication skills and also a creative approach to teaching which will make me more attractive to employers. In the future I hope to be a successful primary school teacher within the local area.
