Before I came to Oxford Brookes I studied a BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social, which gave me experience in different childcare settings.

I chose to study my BA at Oxford Brookes because the course gave me the most choices, with varied and interesting modules. The course at Brookes was very highly recommended within the childcare settings that I had worked in, and I found the course to be flexible enough that I could work on the subjects that I was interested in and that I wanted to do. It is this flexibility that I believe is the best part of the course, as you get a range of interesting topics as well as both practical and theoretical opportunities.

Oxford is a beautiful place to study, with beautiful surroundings and opportunities to join various different activities. I like that the course is situated at Harcourt Hill. It is quiet and peaceful so easy to do work at, yet town is only a short journey away for when you want to go somewhere with a bit more going on.

When I finish my degree I hope to work with children under three years old. I really think that the course will help me achieve this, as it is helping me to learn a lot of different theories that I wouldn’t necessarily know if I just worked with children without doing the course. Having an understanding of these theories, which help me understand childcare and children’s development, will undoubtedly prove invaluable, and I will be able to implement these theories so that the childcare I’m providing is to an excellent standard.

The Early Childhood Studies course is always evolving and really helps students get the most out of it. The staff are great, and were really helpful in realising that I am dyslexic and providing me with the help I needed to deal with it.
