Women + Leadership: Closing the Gender Gap

Oxford Brookes University recognises the transformative capacity of the higher education sector, occupying, as it does, a unique position in terms of shaping values and promoting attitudes which will advance equality in the labour market and in wider society.

The enrolment of women in higher education in Europe, as well as in many other parts of the world, exceeds that of men. However, women's advancement in education is not reflected in the wider labour market and there is still a gender deficit in senior leadership roles across different sectors of the economy.

In response to the European Gender Equality Strategy (2010-15) and the UK Davies' report, which makes recommendations designed to achieve better gender diversity on company boards, the University is actively engaged in developing female talent both among students and staff through our teaching, research and employment practices.
