Sexual orientation: links for students

  • The Students’ Union LGBT Society supports students and arranges social events, some of which are also open to staff. The society operates an established befriending scheme where new members can meet up with an older student before coming out with the whole society.  The LGBT Society president for academic year 2009-2010 is Katie Fry.   • In 2006 the LGBT Society pioneered the first National Student Pride, uniting LGBT students from all over the UK. Brookes hosted the event that year and in 2007.
  • The Equal Opportunities page of the University’s Career and Employment Centre offers information and links on sexuality issues in career matters.
  • The University offers many opportunities to study LGBT-themed topics across a surprising range of subject areas. Ask your Field Chair for further information.
  • NUS LGBT is an autonomous part of the National Union of Students which campaigns for LGBT equality.
  • We also have an an LGBT officer who is part of the Student Union executive, whose job is to help promote LGBT issues, welfare and represent LGBT students both within the Students Union and within the university as a whole.  The LGBT officer for academic year 2009-2010 is Paul Mason.
