In the unfortunate event that any complications arise during pregnancy or following the birth, the University has a number of support mechanisms that the employee can use, which include Human Resources and Occupational Health and the member of staff will be given the option of receiving confidential counselling through the Occupational Health Nurse telephone 01865 485772. Dependent care leave, domestic emergency and bereavement leave is also available as well as sick pay.


If a member of staff miscarries her baby before the start of the 25th week of pregnancy she will not be entitled to Statutory Maternity Leave or Pay.

Still birth

If a member of staff has a still birth during or after the 25th week of pregnancy all the maternity rights apply and she is entitled to all her maternity leave and pay.
