Praise for Social Work Students

Wednesday, 15 June 2011

Two second year BA Social Work students, Nadia Shakourian and Lucy Takawira recently completed their Private, Volunteer and Independent (PVI) sector placement at Bromford Support, a housing scheme for people with learning disabilities. They worked with support worker, Paula Monteiro helping her clients access the Mates ‘N’ Dates service, a specialist dating and friendship agency for adults with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire. Paula sent praise to the Agency Co-ordinator on the students’ input and professionalism.

Hannah Wolstenholme, Mates ‘N’ Dates Co-ordinator said “A process began of liaising with Nadia and Lucy and two visits were arranged (for clients), the first to present the service and the second to follow up with further clarification and hopefully the filling in of applications and referrals, if anyone was interested. From the outset of the work Nadia and Lucy fulfilled a pivotal role in both participating and follow up and I wish to acknowledge my thanks to both of them.

They showed commitment, motivation and positive engagement with all of the customers present and myself. Their positive and professional approach contributed significantly to the project and its perceived benefit, and we managed to sign up 5 out of 7 customers, which is a great result.”

Nadia commented “Working at Mates ‘N’ Dates has been a wonderful experience where I learnt a great deal and met some lovely people. Mates ‘N’ Dates is a very worthwhile organisation that gives opportunity to so many people and I am glad that I have been able to be a part of it.”
