Occupational Therapy at Oxford Brookes

  • Occupational Therapy at Oxford Brookes

The BSc or MSc (pre -registration) Occupational Therapy courses will launch you into the national and international world of Occupational Therapy. You will be eligible to register with the HCPC (Allied Health Profession regulatory body) and call yourself an occupational therapist. This means you will be able to work in a wide variety of specialisms including social services, the NHS, charities and others organisations where the skills of occupational therapists are in great demand. We will give you placement experiences in mainstream and emerging areas of practice, including Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a world renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK.

The Occupational Therapy team will support you to develop the professional skills, values, knowledge and research required to work with people with diverse health needs  in a wide variety of health and community settings. We work closely with our physiotherapy and other health colleagues, and students will learn together on some modules where there is an emphasis on shared teaching in line with our collaborative work in practice.

    Student Experience

The student experience is paramount and we work in close partnership with students and local placement providers to ensure that the student is at the centre of our provision. Students are involved in all parts of the recruitment process and our key programme committees. We offer a very friendly and supportive environment in which to learn, and consistently receive very high satisfaction ratings for our student support student surveys and practice learning from our regulatory bodies.

    Collaboration

We benefit from excellent collaborative working with leading local health care providers such as the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and NHS Swindon as well as those further a field in London and surrounding areas. We work with service users to ensure that what we offer you meets the needs of the service. We believe we offer some of the best placement experiences you could wish for to enhance your learning experience throughout your studies. Many of these settings have world class reputations for their quality and innovation and are at the cutting edge of research and practice development. Others are small local charities where the occupational therapists help people do the things they wish to do.
