  • Our academic staff have backgrounds as successful coaches (at the Commonwealth Games, European Championships and World University Games), exercise physiologists (with the English Institute of Sport) as well as rehab specialists and exercise therapists. We also have a track record of conducting exciting research with a practical application to it. These factors enable us to create a unique learning environment with interesting work experience and a very high employability rate. A number of our lecturing staff have been nominated for Student Union “Lecturer of the Year awards”, Brookes People Awards and National Teaching Fellowships as well as working as External Examiners at other UK universities.

We have our own in-house Clinical Exercise and Rehabilitation Unit (CLEAR) and Human Performance Unit (HPU), which provide excellent hands-on experience and enhance employment prospects.

We work extensively with local schools, colleges, clubs, academies and centres of excellence to provide meaningful opportunities to go out into Oxford and Oxfordshire local sports community. We have a very close relationship with Oxford Sports Partnership and have been awarded a generous scholarship to provide reduced price, national governing body of sport coaching qualifications for enrolled students. Also, we are the Coaching Centre for Oxfordshire Rugby Union and provide qualification and development courses for practicing coaches and student coaches alike.

The contents of our UG and PG programmes are not only relevant to elite sports, but also cover aspects of exercise in a modern lifestyle and health context. We will assist you in developing your own career at an early stage and work hard to ensure students have the skills and experience to be highly employable, in a competitive market.
