Department of Sport, Health Sciences and Social Work

  • The research interests of the Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity Research Group (SEPARG) include rehabilitation, high intensity exercise training, recovery after exercise, and the impact of non-linear pedagological approaches in sport.

We encourage research in a number of other fields, have had success with publishing both undergraduate and postgraduate work, and can offer a number of flexible part-time and full-time research degree opportunities including Masters by research, MPhil, PhD and PhD by published work.

Research students are well supported through expert supervision, comprehensive skills training and many opportunities to interact with other researchers and students across a variety of disciplines and from different institutions. As a group, we have collaborative research projects running with a number of UK Universities, as well as with institutions in France, Japan and New Zealand among others.

Our general areas of interest are:

    • development and improvement of human performance in competitive sport
    • influence health promotion and rehabilitation through sport, exercise and physical activity
    • promote non-linear approaches to pedagogy in sport, exercise and physical activity, and their impact on human movement
