Sizakele Makhanya

I found the course very goal directed, broadening my understanding of international issues in general as well as unpacking specific contemporary issues in International Relations

Before coming to Oxford Brookes Sizakele Makhanya worked for the South African Department of Foreign affairs dealing with the incoming and outgoing visits of heads of state, foreign affairs ministers, royal visitors and visitors from multilateral organisations such as the United Nations.

Oxford Brookes has a good track record for producing graduates that make a difference in their careers and in society.

I found the course very goal directed, broadening my understanding of international issues in general as well as unpacking specific contemporary issues in International Relations. I loved the fact that our text books were so up‐to‐date and that our lecturers were so dedicated. The way that lessons were structured was very exciting and the use of teaching aids and e-learning aids was amazing, exceeding all my expectations.

The British Council is funding my course, its 100% scholarship so they are paying for my tuition, accommodation and stipend allowance. Now that I have finished my course work I have just started working part‐time for the International Summer School (British Council) in Oxford Brookes. This will boost my income while I finish my dissertation.

It’s not an easy thing to spend a year abroad especially when you’re grown up and have responsibilities, but the University’s international student welfare office has been incredibly supportive throughout. I believe that by taking this course with Oxford Brookes I have positioned myself for better things and I hope one day soon to be posted back to the UK as a diplomat.
