I knew I wanted to get my MA from an overseas university. As an American, I wanted to get another perspective on international relations in order to be a better rounded professional in the future. I was attracted to Brookes by the openness and acceptance of the university’s staff. Also, the MA programme seemed well balanced and relevant to not only the classic theories and world history, but also speaks to the current issues and ideas in international relations.

I have found the staff to be professional yet approachable, and have been impressed by the wide range of material covered by the professors. They are not afraid to explore the most current and contemporary theories in international relations, giving us the most up to date knowledge on all the relevant issues. The programme is very effective in preparing students for better opportunities in the workplace or preparing those who plan to pursue a PhD.

The department offers an excellent mentoring programme; all postgraduate students are allocated a member of teaching staff with whom they can discuss career options, or any academic issues. There is also a student coordinator to facilitate any other course issues. The amount of support and outreach from everyone at Oxford Brookes, especially to international students, is extremely helpful and I feel confident that I chose the right university for my postgraduate degree.

As an international student I have found the staff extremely accepting and knowledgeable on all issues regarding applications, visas, and helping me to get settled in Oxford. They have made the transition as smooth as possible by mitigating problems and answering all questions, no matter now specific to my needs.

Oxford is diverse and accepting, with the intimate feel of a small city but the culture and life of a big city. The broad range of restaurants and pubs ensure that every night can be a new experience. Oxford also offers a wide range of community activities, theatre, music, art, dance and history that is a completely unique experience, and unlike any other city.
