Oxford Brookes is very accommodating to its students, and enables you to tailor your degree to your own needs.

Imy was attracted to Oxford Brookes because of the control he had over his own degree, the friendly staff, and the range societies open to students

I chose to study Philosophy and Politics as a combined degree, because I thought it would give me good critical thinking skills, and the ability to apply them to current political issues.

Oxford Brookes is very accommodating to its students, and enables you to tailor your degree to your own needs. For instance, I was given the freedom to pick my dissertation topic. The access I had in the library to various journals was also indispensable. It allowed me to indulge my nerdy side during my degree and gave me a wide range of experts to reference. Also, the staff are exceptionally helpful and will go above and beyond.

For my dissertation I chose the European refugee crisis as it is something I have a deep interest in. I was greatly helped by my dissertation supervisor Dominic Welburn, he was undoubtedly my favourite lecturer at Brookes. His humour, support, and high standards greatly contributed to my First class BSc. Another lecturer that I found influential was Tina Managhan. She leads a great module called ‘Violence, Identity and Resistance’ which encourages you to take different perspectives in politics.

A large part of my Brookes experience was extra-curricular: I was the president of the Jazz Society. I can’t stress how much fun this was! I got to play alongside fantastic students and professional musicians and, music aside, got to perform at fabulous venues around Oxford!

I am currently an intern for the Humanities and Social Science marketing office and I plan to apply for a Civil Service job next year.
