• Teaching

Much of the teaching on the Headington Campus will take place in the John Henry Brookes Building. These high quality spaces are dedicated to providing high quality teaching, and comprise:

    • a 320-seat lecture theatre with the facility to live stream lectures and cinema-quality projection
    • three floors totalling 24 teaching rooms, including three seminar rooms (seating up to 100) and three computer teaching rooms, alongside smaller, flexible teaching rooms.

    John Henry Brookes Lecture Theatre

The John Henry Brookes Lecture Theatre lies at the heart of the building, appearing suspended in the Forum. Wooden acoustic battens on its outside help break up the sound in the Forum and soundproofing ensure minimal noise transfer between the lecture theatre and its surroundings.

The John Henry Brookes Lecture Theatre provides a superb platform for guest speakers and academics, and audiences alike. It is heated and cooled with a passive ground cooling system which draws in fresh air from under the Piazza, a system which maintains a consistent and comfortable environment while also reducing the building’s environmental impact.

    The teaching block

The teaching block consists of 24 teaching rooms, all of which have interactive whiteboards to enhance learning. There are::

    • 18 teaching rooms with high quality easy to use AV equipment
    • three pooled computer teaching rooms
    • three seminar rooms (with capacity for up to 100 students each); these rooms are named after the University’s Chancellors of past and present – Snow, Kennedy and Chakrabarti.
