Harcourt Hill road resurfacing - August 2017
Monday, 17 July 2017
This August, Harcourt Hill, the road leading to the University’s campus of the same name, is being resurfaced.
The works will see the road being resurfaced from the junction with Westminster Way (near the A34 slip road) up to Vernon Avenue, in two phases. The works are scheduled to commence on Tuesday 15 August and finish on Friday 25 August, working 9.00am - 6.00pm. View an interactive map of the area, using Google My Maps.
Phase one: Tuesday 15 August to Saturday 19 AugustThis will include preparatory work prior to the main resurfacing, including kerb installation. The road will be closed, but vehicular traffic may pass through after a short wait. The U1 BROOKESbus will run as normal.
Phase two: Monday 21 August to Friday 25 AugustThis will comprise the main resurfacing works. The road will be closed and while vehicular traffic may pass through, a wait of up to 20 minutes may be required. As a result, the U1 BROOKESbus will not serve the campus bus stop (see more information below).
Before 9.00am and after 6.00pm, Harcourt Hill will be fully reopened to traffic. Footpaths will remain open throughout the works and cyclists will be ask to dismount.
Arrangements for the U1 BROOKESbus
The U1 BROOKESbus will serve Harcourt Hill Campus as normal during phase one. During phase two, the bus will be unable to serve the stop on the campus itself, so the stop at Raleigh Park Road should be used as both a drop-off and boarding point for the campus. From here, the bus will divert onto the A34 and back to Botley Road via the Botley Interchange.
All other Oxford/Wheatley-bound stops on Westminster Way will be temporarily suspended during phase two working hours and a temporary, additional stop will be in place opposite 156 Westminster Way, which can also be used to access these journeys. Special arrangements will be in place for users with a disability, please contact the Transport team to find out more.
Before 9.00am and after 6.00pm, the U1 BROOKESbus service will operate as normal, with drop-off and boarding at the campus bus stop.
Parking for visitors to the University will be suspended during the second week of the works period. Any visitors should be encouraged to use the U1 bus or meet at another campus where possible.
Brookes Sports Botley
Due to the restricted access to the campus, the Sport Centre’s normal operation will be affected and as such this quieter period will be used to improve the wet-side changing facilities for the swimming pool.
The swimming pool will be closed for maintenance to wet-side changing facilities.
The Sport Centre will remain open for normal operating hours.
The Sports Centre will be closed between 08:30-18.30, but will open daily from 06:00-08:30 and 18:30-23:00.
Please note the Fitness Class timetable will be running a reduced weekday schedule for the duration of the roadworks.
Parking will be maintained for users of the sports facilities in the usual way, while the Sports Centre is open.
