Wheatley Campus plan

An outline planning application has been submitted for the redevelopment of Wheatley Campus

As announced in 2015, Oxford Brookes is working to an estate investment plan that will create a high quality, student-centred and sustainable estate. As part of this, an outline planning application has been submitted for the redevelopment of Wheatley Campus once University activity moves to Headington Campus, by 2021/22.

The submission follows a two year process working with a team of consultants, the District Council and community representatives. The application proposes the site is used for housing, as identified by South Oxfordshire District Council in its Emerging Local Plan 2032.

Draft proposals were presented at a public exhibition in June 2017 and have undergone further technical work in response to comments received at the consultation event and from community representatives. Changes include:

  • Ensuring further quality, mature trees are retained where possible and incorporated into pockets of open space interspersed throughout the site
  • Adding a new sports pavilion building which would provide a multi-functional space for use by the wider community
  • Reducing the overall density of the development and the number of dwellings proposed from ‘up to 600’ to ‘up to 500’ dwellings.

With the exception of vehicular access into the site, all detailed matters are reserved for subsequent approval by the Local Planning Authority.

The full application is available to view on the South Oxfordshire District Council’s website.

Oxford Brookes will soon begin marketing the site for sale through an external tender process managed by University consultants, GVA.
