Expected programme of works from Friday 19 to Sunday 28 July 2013

What’s happening on site

  • The top two floors of the teaching block has now been completed
  • Carpeting and the first shelving has been installed in the Library
  • Kitchen equipment is being fitted into the Terrace food hall area
  • Scaffolding is being removed throughout the building’s interior
  • Toilets, toilet cubicles and sinks are now in place
  • The internal granite stone flooring across the building’s ground floor is finished

What you need to know

Everybody

  • Campus access outside John Payne has returned to normal
  • Deliveries to the Print Room, International Centre and Tonge will need to be arranged in advance – please contact spacetothink@brookes.ac.uk for further info
  • Pedestrian access between Headington Road and Cheney School field remains diverted via the path at the rear of International Centre and Tonge

Gibbs and John Payne

  • Surface breaking and excavation will begin behind Gibbs from Monday 22 July
  • This work is expected to continue into early August is likely to cause some noise and vibration disruption to nearby building users
  • There will be a continued increase in HGV traffic using the road from Fuller to Gibbs and John Payne
  • Please take care when using the pedestrian crossing in this area and listen carefully to instructions from construction staff

Buckley and Abercrombie

  • The final concrete floor plates are being laid in the Colonnade
  • Structural work will continue into September
  • A mobile crane has been erected on the site and will create background engine noise throughout the rest of the summer

Sinclair

  • The remainder of works in this area should be low impact on nearby building users as paving and landscaping is completed

Tonge

  • A mobile crane will be erected close to the Tonge building from next week, and will create background engine noise that may disturb nearby building users
  • Access to Tonge laboratories is now via the steps near to the main entrance of Tonge
  • Trolley access to the labs will need to be arranged in advance – please emailspacetothink@brookes.ac.uk
  • Full ramped access is expected to reopen from Monday 29 July

International Centre

  • Concrete breaking and excavation is now beginning at the face of this building
  • This work is expected to cause disruption to building users until early August when paving will begin
  • Access to the International Centre should not be affected but occasional management by construction staff may be required

Media Centre

  • Concrete breaking outside the Media Centre will continue to move closer to the building
  • Media Centre users will continue to experience noise and vibration disturbance throughout the rest of the summer
  • Further changes to pedestrian access may come into effect during August as a result of the progress of these works
