Expected programme of works from Friday 20 December 2013 to Friday 3 January 2014

What's happening on site

 

  • The piazza stairs are now open up to the main entrance of the new building
  • The cut-through from Headington Road to the Central Courtyard is now open
  • The Western Access Road is now complete and fitted with lighting columns
  • All Library furniture has been installed, including shelving and offices
  • Teaching rooms are completed, including the new audiovisual hardware
  • The entrance 'threshold' of the corten steel ribbon is almost complete and can be seen in the newly opened area of piazza slope

What you need to know

Everybody

 

  • The path between Buckley and Abercrombie will close during January 2014
  • Further details will be provided in advance when confirmed
  • The Library is expected to close for a seven day period at some point between 10 and 22 January 2014 to relocate into the new building
  • Updates will be posted on the Library webpages in the New Year but any questions should be directed to spacetothink@brookes.ac.uk
  • During this relocation there will be an increase of heavy goods vehicle movements at the Gipsy Lane and Headington Road entrances
  • Contractors are moving to site offices located in the Gibbs courtyard for 2014
  • This will involve some fitting out in the New Year which may occasionally affect pedestrian access and cause minor noise
  • The removal of the main construction site offices from the Central Courtyard will require some preparatory work to allow for a crane to be erected at the main entrance
  • This will begin from Thursday 2 January 2014 and the crane is expected to be on site until Monday 20 January 2014
  • This will impact on visitor and staff parking and on access to the Main Reception
  • On the weekend of Saturday 11 to Monday 13 January the entire Main Reception will be closed
  • Please look for detailed information in future notices and the Onstream edition published on Wednesday 18 December 2013
  • There is no bike parking available outside the Media Centre, this provision has now moved to the front of Buckley

 

Sinclair and Abercrombie

 

  • The soft strip of the construction site offices will continue in the New Year
  • There will be concrete breaking in the Central Courtyard from Monday 6 January 2014 to prepare for the removal of the facilities
  • This work is not expected to continue for more than a few days but will cause noise disruption to nearby building users

 

International and Media Centres

 

  • Construction of the cycle shelter between the International and Media Centres are expected to continue into the New Year
  • Both the timber roof and remaining wall construction may cause noise disruption to nearby building users

 

Gibbs and John Payne

 

  • The installation of replacement contractor site offices is not expected to impact on nearby building users in the New Year
