Expected programme of works from Friday 09 to Sunday 18 May 2014

Birch House demolition

  • Birch House is now closed
  • Solid hoarding and metal barriers will be erected around the site from Monday 12 May
  • This will involve the removal of access into Sinclair via the door which leads to SG50 and 51
  • Access to Sinclair and Gibbs will be otherwise unaffected
  • Internal strip out will now begin on Monday 19 May, with actual demolition work rescheduled for the following week
  • Demolition proper will now begin on Tuesday 27 May with the detachment of Birch House from the Sinclair building
  • This work is likely to cause significant noise and disruption to those in the immediate vicinity
  • Demolition is expected to end on Monday 23 June and will be followed by ground breaking works which will last the remainder of the week
  • Dust-suppression will be in effect throughout the demolition, however it is likely that users of Gibbs, Sinclair and JHBB will experience some disruption from noise or vibration
  • Following demolition, the Gibbs courtyard will be landscaped and redeveloped into a pedestrianised zone
  • Traffic will increase in the area between Gibbs and Sinclair over the summer, and constructor management will be in force

Gibbs and Sinclair buildings

  • From Monday 12 May a hoarding line will be erected around Birch House and access to Sinclair will be affected
  • There will be no access to Sinclair building via the door which leads to SG50 and 51
  • Access to both buildings will be otherwise unaffected
  • Demolition is now scheduled to begin on Tuesday 27 May and will continue for a period of up to four weeks
  • This will be followed by ground breaking works
  • Dust-suppression will be in effect throughout the demolition, however it is likely that building users will experience some disruption from noise, vibration or increased traffic movements

  • The data and voice shutdown in Gibbs building will now take place on Saturday 17 May from 2pm and Sunday 11 May all day

  • Please note that the lawn in the central courtyard is still being protected while the newly laid grass beds in
  • The lawn is not yet ready for use and will be damaged if walked on
