Professional Development

  • The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (higher education administration and management) (OUVA), known as the PgCert, is designed to meet the development needs of professional services colleagues working in Higher Education. The programme, designed by experienced professional practitioners and validated by the Open University, balances professional rigour with academic inquiry, fosters reflective practice and offers a flexible route to a level 7 postgraduate professional qualification.

This highly flexible programme will appeal to professional managers and administrators from right across the spectrum of UK higher education, who wish to extend their understanding of the sector and develop their professional competencies.

Diana Rayner, Quality Assurance Officer, is a graduate of the PGCert and can be contacted if you would like to ask her about her student experience.

Funding towards the PGCert may be available via your Faculty or Directorate staff development fund. Please discuss this with your line manager to determine whether funds can be made available.

The AUA has developed the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework to support the continuous professional development of all professional services staff working in the sector.

The project was a culmination of a highly collaborative 2 year LGM project, and was jointly funded by AUA, HEFCE, LFHE and HE Academy. The framework is a significant milestone in the development of our profession and we are certain it will be an important reference point into the future.

Since the framework was formally launched at the AUA Conference and Exhibition 2009 in Exeter, AUA has been working on plans to support implementation projects across the sector. By working with a small number of pre-pilot early adopting partners we have established the extent to which the Framework can be adapted to a wide variety of organisational context.
