Staff communications

What communications can you expect to receive as a member of staff? What is the best way to keep up-to-date, contribute and get involved? These are the key staff communications channels at Oxford Brookes.

Staff Comms Hub

The Staff Comms Hub (Brookes login required) is the main news platform for staff and is regularly updated with information and stories from across the University. The hub also features:

  • deadlines for submitting a story or news item for Staff Update
  • a directory of Google Sites from across the University
  • staff email archives
  • key staff webinar recordings.

Staff Update

Staff Update is Oxford Brookes’ official staff newsletter, which is sent to all colleagues by email fortnightly on a Thursday. The newsletter provides a round-up of relevant news, updates, events and opportunities from across the University. All articles shared in Staff Update can be found on the Staff Comms Hub (Brookes login required).

Submit content for Staff Update

Please submit content for Staff Update to the Staff Communications team at brookescommunications@brookes.ac.uk.

Content shared in Staff Update should be relevant to either:

  • employees of the University, and those who liaise with contractors, associate lecturers, casual staff and affiliates
  • a cross-section of the staff population who cannot be categorised by Faculty or Directorate.

See the Staff Comms Hub (Brookes login required) for:

  • deadlines for submitting an item to Staff Update
  • an archive of articles shared in Staff Update
  • the Staff Update email archive.

Strategy Matters

All staff members receive a monthly Strategy Matters email, which provides updates on key University developments, projects and strategic work. All of these updates and staff articles, as well as the Strategy Matters email archive can be found on the Strategy Matters webpage on the Staff Comms Hub (Brookes login required).

Talk to Vice-Chancellor’s Group events

Talk to Senior Leadership Team (SLT) events offer all staff the opportunity to hear from and interact with the Vice-Chancellor's Group on the University’s key priorities, strategic focus and expectations.

Talk to SLT events take place:

  • online and in-person
  • twice a year (usually in a series of three sessions each semester).

Announcements and information about how to register for Talk to SLT events are shared via Strategy Matters and Staff Update emails. An archive of Talk to SLT recordings is available on the Staff Comms Hub (Brookes login required).

Vice-Chancellor’s emails

The Vice-Chancellor occasionally sends emails addressed to all Oxford Brookes staff, regarding a current topic. These emails are usually sent in response to important announcements or to coincide with key calendar events.

All-staff emails

All-staff emails sent from ‘Brookes Communications’ are corporate announcements that are time-critical or that need to be disseminated simultaneously to all colleagues. This may include emergency communications, reports of serious incidents or important updates.

Faculty and Directorate communications

Faculties and Directorates may have their own communications channels including:

  • newsletters
  • Google Groups
  • online forums
  • quarterly meetings
  • specific opportunities to hear updates and provide feedback.

You should start receiving these communications when you begin your role. If you have any enquiries about Faculty or Directorate communications, contact your Operations Team.

Staff Diversity Networks

The University has a number of staff diversity networks and forums to connect and support colleagues based on shared identity or experience. Once you join a group you will start receiving targeted communications.
