Dr Roger Dalrymple

  • As a university lecturer working with schoolteachers and other educational practitioners, I want to support and encourage LGBT+ role models in all educational settings.

I am a Programme Lead in the School of Education where I oversee the MA Education and related postgraduate courses. I work with educational practitioners from the full range of settings, from Early Years to Higher Education and lifelong learning.

I find Brookes to be a highly inclusive and welcoming workplace where it is certainly possible for me to be open about my sexual orientation and my family. Having experienced contexts where this was more difficult, I value this very deeply.

I believe LGBT+ role models are vital in all sectors of education and I keenly felt the absence of any such role models during my own education, especially in my school years. As a university lecturer working with schoolteachers and other educational practitioners, I want to support and encourage LGBT+ role models in all educational settings.

The main benefits of being out at work are in terms of wellbeing and congruence as a person: in the words of a self-help guide on coming out that I read many years ago, it’s about ‘not having to think about it at all.’

I cherish creativity and collaboration and find that together they solve most of life’s challenges.

Brookes is supportive of both personal and professional development. Since joining OBU I have benefited from development opportunities that have supported my wellbeing as much as they have enhanced personal effectiveness.

You will find Brookes to be a welcoming and supportive community where you really can be fully yourself.
