The Quality Plan forms part of the PID at Stage 3: Planning of the project lifecycle and working towards approval at Gateway 3: Initiation.
The Project Manager is responsible for the preparation and production of the Quality Plan. A useful starting point to the production of the Quality Plan is to transfer relevant information from the Project Brief and Business Case on Customer Quality Expectations and Acceptance Criteria. Before going to the Board for approval, the Project Manager must obtain the Project Sponsor/Executive sign-off.
The Quality Plan is used to define the quality techniques and standards to be applied during the project. The quality requirements and acceptance criteria should be set in collaboration with the Senior User and other users. It will be this set of defined quality standards that the product of the project must have in order to be accepted as completed and having delivered something that is 'fit for purpose'.
