I've always loved English, I love picking apart language and how there is no right/wrong answer. It opens many doors to different careers, which is good because I'm still not sure what I want to do! I love Brookes because Oxford is such a beautiful and vibrant city to be in, and I love how close it is to London too! When I came here I felt at home right away, everyone is so helpful and happy.
Student tip - My student tip would be to stick to Tesco value until the last few weeks of semester, than splash all your saved cash on dominos and chocolate during deadline weeks. Seriously, it really helps!

I chose Japanese Studies and History because I wanted to learn a new language that was interesting and different to anything I’d studied before. I’ve combined it with History because I have always enjoyed learning and writing about it. Brookes was one of the few universities that offered this combination and when I saw our exchange programme and met my lecturers I knew I wanted to come here.
Student tip - Never sit back and wait for someone to offer you a fantastic opportunity! University is all about getting out there and making decisions for yourself.
Teaching gives children opportunities and I have always loved working within the school environment helping children meet targets and enjoy their surroundings. Brookes has a fun and friendly atmosphere with big bright working areas. The city has a good night life, shopping scene and there are many restaurants around the centre.
Student tip - Always make a shopping list!! This will help you stay on budget and eat well.

I chose to do a degree in early childhood as I enjoyed my college course. The ability to work with children and improve their experience is something that I hoped to develop further at university. I choose to study at Brookes as it was the closet university to where I live and the friendly and helpful people I met during the university open day.
Student tip - University is a great place to try new things like the societies and sports; not just for your first year, but every year you’re at university.

I chose my degree because English Language has always been a preferred subject of mine. I am fascinated by the ways in which people communicate across various cultures and communities. I chose Brookes because the lecturers seemed more passionate than anywhere else I visited on Open Days. I also loved the location, and the new facilities at the Headington Campus.
Student tip - Create and stick to a budget sheet, allocate your money so you know you will always have the required amount for bills and food etc. Anything left over you can save...or spend out and about in Oxford!

I've always been interested in the way language works and I want to be a journalist when uni finishes. I love writing, so this is the perfect subject for me. Oxford is such a beautiful city and its great for students. The course suited me so well and I loved the campuses.
Student tip - Be extra sociable and go to loads of different events to make friends. The people you meet will make your time at uni!

A combined degree is a great way to go if you are interested in more than one subject. I love reading and am thinking of training to be a teacher so it was a perfect combination! A big part of my university choice was the location of it. Oxford is an amazing city to live in. This mixed with the great resources Brookes offers made it the best university choice for me.
Student tip - Think of ways you can plan your days with activities to enhance your student experience- don't let it slip away! You could join a society, get a part-time job or join a class at the gym.

English Language was one of the only subjects I really enjoyed throughout school. There are so many interesting areas within the subject which reflects how diverse the subject really is. When I came to the open day I immediately felt at home. I found Harcourt Hill beautiful, and the course talk was outstanding reflecting how passionate the lecturers are about what they teach.
Student tip - Do not be afraid to throw yourself out there, be confident and get involved in as much as you can in first year because it is when you will meet most of your friends-everyone is in the same boat!

I chose my degree subject because the course combination and modules offered at Oxford Brookes were hard to come by! Here, I found exactly what I was looking for. After coming to a couple of open days, I got a positive feeling about the university and city, which is why I chose Brookes.
Student tip - Get involved with everything you can! It's a great way to meet new people and build your confidence.

Throughout school, I studied Japan often thanks to Geography. This then led to a further interest and I started to watch anime and Japanese films and began to love the language. I chose Brookes because of the great selection of partner universities for my year abroad and the course is intense so will learn a lot.
Student tip - Join lots of societies as you will meet many new people there that could become your friends!
