Taking your examinations off-site

  • Applying for an off-site exam

    • If unable to sit your exam at the University, apply to take it off-site by the relevant deadline below. 
    • The exam must take place at the same time as the main sitting, irrespective of any time zone difference.

    Note: approval of an off-site exam is at the sole discretion of the University.

    How to apply

    Step 1 Identify an Institution to Host your examination. This will normally be your nearest British Council . Other institutions may only be approved at the discretion of the Head of Examinations.
    Step 2 Contact your Host Institution and find out who deals with their overseas examinations. This person will act as your Off-Site Examination Contact. Make sure you have all the contact information requested in the form
    Step 3 Complete the Online Off-site Examination Application Form , making sure you have provided all contact details of your off-site examination contact. If you cannot access the google form then you can complete a paper Off-site Examination Application Form and email or send it to the examinations office.
    Step 4 Make the payment to Brookes for the application through the online shop. If we are unable to arrange your examination then we will refund this fee. If you choose not to attend the examination then the fee is non-refundable.
    Step 5 We will contact your Host Institution to inform them of the date and time of the examination(s).
    Step 6 We will inform you if your application has been approved or rejected. If the application has been rejected, payment will be refunded.
    Step 7 Make sure you make all required registrations and payments with your exam centre before any deadlines they set. This is your responsibility and we cannot help you if you fail to do this.
    Step 8 Attend your examination at the centre on the correct date and time. Remember to bring your Brookes ID card and other required items to the exam..

    Off-site fees

      UK-based:

      • £150 for one examination
      • £75 for each additional examination taken in the same examination period

      Overseas: 

      • £200 for one examination
      •  £75 for each additional examination taken in the same examination period

      Notes: i) the administration charge is non-refundable ii) the host instiution may also charge you for the service iii) the  Financial Aid Office may be able to assist you if needed.
