Guide Rob Tanner will introduce you to the darker side of the last 1,000 years of Oxford's history. You will hear the TRUE stories of murders, massacres, burnings, grave robbers, hangings and human dissection. Added to this you will hear of the many Oxford legends. From headless horsemen, to devil worshippers and Monks forever trapped beneath the ancient streets, all told in Oxford's darkest and most mysterious streets and lanes.
Historically, Bonfire Night marks the anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ plot to blow up the House of Lords and assassinate King James I in 1605 – the failed 'gunpowder plot' is remembered in the children’s rhyme ‘Remember, remember the 5th of November; gunpowder, treason and plot’. Today, it is commemorated with spectacular displays of fireworks. (Source: UKCISA)
