    The International Student Advice Team (ISAT) organises social events and trips to enhance the international student experience at Oxford Brookes.

    Spend a day in the stunning city of Bath, famous for its Roman baths, Georgian architecture and its connection to renowned British novelist Jane Austen. There will be 1-hour coach tour and you’ll also get plenty of free time to explore the city.

    Ideas how to spend your free time in Bath include: Roman Baths Museum, Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge, Parade Gardens, the Circus and Royal Crescent, Jane Austen Centre, the Fashion Museum, No1 Royal Crescent.

    Visit the 800-year old ruins of Tintern Abbey. You will then pass through the beautiful Wye Valley before spending the afternoon in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. After a guided tour, you’ll have a few hours of free time to explore the city.

    Ideas how to spend your free time in Cardiff include: Cardiff Castle, Bute Park, Yr Hen Lyfrgell, Morgan Quarter, Castle Arcade, Spillers Records, National Museum Cardiff, Aquabus City-Bay (make sure that you have enough time to get back to the city centre on time to meet the coach).

    The theme is: Travelling and discoveries in the UK

    You will need to submit one photo (ideally in jpeg) and a short paragraph (100 to 200 words) to tell us about your experiences and discoveries, whether in Oxford or further afield in the UK. It might be, for example, something you found beautiful, surprising, or different from home whilst exploring your new country. Don’t hesitate to add your Instagram and Facebook usernames at the end of the paragraph if you would like us to tag you when we post about the photo competition!

    By entering the competition, you agree to the following:

    • The image you submit can be used by ISAT on its social media (Facebook and Instagram) and marketing material
    • Your paragraph can be used as a student quote on the ISAT website or marketing material (you can ask for the quote to remain anonymous)
    • All entries must be received by the closing date and time
    • Only one entry per person
    • The image you submit should have been taken by you
    • If the image you submit includes an identifiable person or group, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you have their permission to use the image for this competition
    • The decision of the panel regarding the winners is final

    Spend some free time in vibrant & creative Brighton, and visit Devil’s Dyke with your tour guide for beautiful panoramas.

    ISAT’s tip: we recommend walking around the city to discover the amazing street art and graffiti!

    One World Week is a week of internationally-themed events run by Brookes Union and Oxford Brookes University.

    The programme offers a wide range of events, from the International Lunch to “Give it a Go” sessions, performances and more. All events are free and open to everyone. Join us to celebrate Brookes’ rich diversity!

    On the journey down to Stonehenge, your tour guide Rob will tell you about the incredible 5,000 year story of Stonehenge. You will hear about the very latest discoveries that have revealed the secrets of Stonehenge, lost for centuries. You can find out more in the visitor centre, cinema and at the stone circle itself.

    After a short journey, you will arrive in the beautiful ancient city of Winchester. You will hear a history of how the Romans, Saxons and Vikings shaped the city and hear about famous names from King Alfred to Jane Austen and film stars like Tom Hanks and Russell Crowe.

    Highlights of the city to explore in your free time include: Britain’s oldest school, Europe’s second longest cathedral and the free museum and castle hall with its famous round table.

    Get the coach from Oxford to Southampton and the ferry to Cowes, on the north of the island. You will pass through lovely little seaside towns and lush countryside until you reach Shanklin, where you will have plenty of free time. You can walk over Tennyson Down and stop at Alum Bay where you can see the Needles and walk over the white cliffs. Expected return time to Oxford: 8pm

    ISAT organises events every semester and we would love to get feedback from you, as we are really interested in improving the international students’ experience at Brookes.

    We would particularly like to get feedback on the Global Buddies programme, the social events you attended and hear your ideas about events we could organise in the future. The session will run for one hour and a nice lunch will be provided.

  • Other events and trips

    The International Student Advice Team runs one day and weekend tourist trips to different destinations and attractions around the UK for international students at Oxford Brookes University.

    Brookes Union and ESN Oxford Brookes (International Exchange and Erasmus Student Network) also host events for students during term time.
