Last week, the Government confirmed the roll-out of a Covid testing programme to enable university students who wish to travel home at the end of semester to do so safely. This testing programme will only be for students without any Covid-19 symptoms (‘Asymptomatic Testing’) .
Since then, we’ve been working hard to set up the testing facility here at Oxford Brookes. We’re pleased to confirm that testing will be rolling out across our Headington, Wheatley, Harcourt Hill and Swindon campuses in the coming weeks. You will be able to book tests on our new booking system from next week - please keep a careful eye on your emails for further information on this.
Tests are simple, fast and free of charge. They are not mandatory but we strongly encourage all students who wish to return home safely to take a test - it will help to stop the spread of the virus and protect your family and friends. You should ideally take two tests three days apart before travelling home from University.
If you plan to travel home for the Christmas break, you should only travel once the national restrictions currently in place have been lifted (after 2 December), and ideally during the designated student travel window of 3-9 December. Because of the way our teaching is timetabled, we expect most students will be in a position to leave Oxford during the week ending 4 December, or in the early part of the following week. Tests will be available after 9 December for those who need to remain on campus or in halls of residence for any reason.
Don’t forget: if you currently have Covid-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with a confirmed case, please isolate immediately. You should inform the University using the new Coronavirus reporting form if you have received a positive test, or if you need to self-isolate. If you have coronavirus symptoms, please book a test using the NHS online booking system.
