Green Impact Bronze Award

Five teams from across Oxford Brookes have achieved Green Impact bronze awards, in recognition of the positive steps they have made towards better sustainability practices on campus.

Green Impact is a sustainability engagement programme run by the National Union of Students (NUS). Since launching in mid-October 2021, ten new teams and 30 staff members at Brookes have joined the programme.

This was our first year and all the teams across the University have been working hard to deliver positive sustainability actions. Five teams applied for the bronze award and were audited by students at the end of April. Part of the programme offers free IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) accredited training for our students.

We are pleased to announce that all five teams successfully met and exceeded all the criteria for the bronze award. Congratulations to the Learning Resources; Marketing, Recruitment and Engagement; Brookes Union; Harcourt Hill Campus and Swindon Campus Green Impact teams.

The Green Impact teams have set up online information sites and regular communication to highlight sustainability steps the teams can take to help the University reach its ambitious targets. They educated and encouraged people about recycling, thinking twice before printing, reporting leaking taps, as well as promoting student and staff active travel, and sustainable engagement opportunities, such as rewilding and wildflower seeding, arranged litter picks and much more.

The auditors provided glowing feedback and commended the teams for going to great lengths to raise awareness and embed sustainability practices within their own working environment and the wider University. They praised the teams’ cohesive approaches to communications, thoughtful and innovative processes, and engagement activities. All teams were recognised for their hard work, enthusiasm, commitment and passion to make positive environmental change.

These comments are testament to all the hard work of those involved: congratulations and well done to everyone who contributed. Things don’t stop here, as all ten teams are working to achieve bronze or have already started to work towards the silver award.
