With the festive period just around the corner, you may be thinking about how you are going to get home.

In accordance with Government guidance for students travelling at the end of term, if you are planning to travel by private vehicle, you should try to avoid car sharing with anyone outside your household or support bubble. Where this isn’t possible, you should follow the safer travel guidance for passengers to reduce the risk of transmission.

If it’s not possible to travel by car and you need to travel by public transport, you are advised to pre-book and avoid busy routes and times.

The University and Brookes Union have worked with travel providers to secure a range of affordable options to help you get home safely.

National Express coaches

National Express has added extra seats during the student travel window (3-9 December) and those studying at Oxford Brookes can use the discount code NDSTUDENTS10 to get 10% off their journey. Further details and terms and conditions can be found on the National Express website.

Oxford Tube coaches

Brookes students can buy return coach tickets to London for £10 with the Oxford Tube and the return trip is valid for up to three months. To be able to pay £10 for your ticket - and not the standard £13 student price - you should book your ticket using the Oxford Tube mobile ticket app. You will need to show your student card to the driver in both cases to be eligible for the Brookes offer.

Please be aware that coaches are currently running to a temporary timetable so make sure you check the departure times on the Oxford Tube website, where you can also find the company’s safe travel advice, as well as details of how to download the mobile ticket app.

001 taxis

Students can book a taxi with our Safe Taxi partner 001 to take you wherever in the country you need to go. 001 can provide fixed fares for long distance journeys so there is no need to worry about the meter. Rates for long distance and airport runs are lower and the company has a range of Covid-19 measures in place to keep you safe. For more information, call 001 taxis on 01865 770000.

Latest information from the University’s Transport Services Team, including further offers available to students, is available on the Oxford Brookes website.

If you do need to use public transport to return home, you should do so in accordance with the latest guidance, which includes the wearing of face coverings, unless you are exempt.

Please also remember that you should only travel home:

Once the national restrictions currently in place have been lifted, and ideally during the designated student travel window of 3-9 December;

Once your face-to-face teaching requirements have been completed;

At a time when you are not displaying any potential symptoms of Covid-19, OR if you have received a negative Covid-19 test result.

Please remember that you should not return to your permanent, home address before 3 December as the UK remains under national lockdown restrictions.
