Local elections are being held across the UK on 5 May 2022. They include local elections in Oxfordshire and Swindon. Find out more about local elections on The Electoral Commission website.
Registration and voting
As a student you are able to vote in a local election if you are a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen resident in the UK, aged 18 or over, and are registered to vote.
You can register at both your home address and your semester-time address. To register to vote please visit the GOV.UK website by 14 April 2022. You can check if you are registered to vote with your local Electoral Registration Office.
If your home and semester-time addresses are in two different local authority areas, you can vote in local elections in both areas.
If you are unable to vote on the day, you can ask a trusted person to go along and vote on your behalf (voting by proxy). Visit The Electoral Commission - Voting by proxy webpage for a form.

- Deadline for registrations to vote - 14 April at 11.59pm
- Deadline for applying for a postal vote - 19 April at 5.00pm
- Deadline for completed applications to vote by proxy - 26 April before 5.00pm
- Deadline for postal vote to be received by the local authority (or to change or cancel an existing arrangement) - by 5.00pm, 11 working days before the poll.
