Oxford Brookes has been placed in the UK's top ten universities for engagement with students for the annual Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Teach In campaign. Organised by Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK), the Teach In Campaign took place from 21 February to 11 March 2022 and is focused on putting the United Nations’ SDGs and sustainability at the heart of all stages of education.

This year we were ranked sixth in the national leaderboard for student reach throughout the campaign. Twenty-three members of teaching staff from across Brookes pledged to take part in the campaign, and reached over one-third of students.

SOS-UK research shows that 84% of students would like to see sustainable development actively incorporated and promoted through all courses. Since its inception in 2018, the campaign has reached nearly 100,000 students across a broad range of disciplines. These students have been able to experience learning about sustainability in a way that's applied to their subject area. Examples of the ways in which SDGs were included in teaching can be found on Brookes’ Global Goals Pledges Padlet.

Michele Morley, Head of Environmental Sustainability, said: “We’re delighted to have been recognised as being in the top ten UK universities in educating our students on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. At Brookes we have a deep commitment to sustainability and the environment... When students lead on sustainability they develop the knowledge, values, skills, and competencies required to make them great sustainability leaders.”
